The technologies of Kainga are normally passed down from one generation to the next, but Thinkers have the unique ability to capture ideas from the past at illuminated sites of inspiration.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Technologies form the core of a town. They are granted to a Thinker via Ideas, found around the map as Inspiration.
Discovering Technologies
Technologies can be discovered by sending a Thinker to Inspiration, floating orbs of light that contain Ideas. A beam of light also rises into the sky, aiding in finding Inspiration. A Thinker can think at Inspiration to discover a technology associated with that Inspiration. Each Inspiration will have an icon associated with the type of technology its Idea can provide. When a player has their Thinker selected, these icons will be visible anywhere on the map. |
Types of Technologies
File:TechGroup Shelter.png Shelter
Shelter technologies are where Braves are spawned, and the only way to increase a village's population capacity. They usually consume Food to produce one Brave, and must be occupied by at least one Brave to produce.

A basic hut made from Clay that can help get your town growing quickly.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Clay Huts are a basic Shelter that can be useful to kick-start a town. Because of its Eagerness property, getting a reliable food supply is less of an immediate priority. However, Clay Huts are vulnerable to almost all weather, don't provide very much population, and can't use attachments.

Huts made from Reeds that allow for rapid population growth.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Thatched Huts can be useful because they are cheap to build (assuming Reeds are in abundance) and occasionally Brave production is free. They are, however, very vulnerable to fires.

Randomly Free: Spawning Braves occasionally costs no resources.

Tents made with logs and provide sharpened axes.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Log Tents are the most robust of the small Shelters, boasting protection against three out of four elements. Log Tents are most useful because they provide the Sharpened Axes passive Technology, which can be very beneficial for warring villages.

Rotunda
A sphere house that can release water to fertilize dry land.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Rotunda houses can store rainwater on their roof (once rained on) and create fertilized land around them. This is particularly helpful in Biomes with limited fertile soil, such as the Flatlands.

A thatched house with a hook that can EITHER catch fish when placed with the back facing water, OR produce Braves as normal on land.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Haken Houses are unique among all other Shelter Technologies in that they can produce something other than Braves; namely, Fish. When placed with their back against water, Haken Houses will not produce Braves but will instead fish for Food. Haken Houses that are producing Food this way still contribute to the population cap.

Fishing Net: Periodically capture fish when placed near the water but no longer produces Braves.
Fishing Knowledge: Unlocks fish type technologies. |
Lamba House
A strong stilted house protected from almost all the elements.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Lamba Houses are relatively cheap to build (compared to other Shelters that can be used in the rain) and can safely be placed on ground level. Because they are raised up, Lamba Houses will continue to work in the rain without needing to place them on higher ground.

Small square houses that grow bamboo behind them.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Sprout Houses are very useful on Biomes with limited Bamboo availability, since upon completion several new shoots of Bamboo grow behind them. However, this growth only occurs on fertile soil, so the utility of this feature can be limited.

Round houses with Reed roofs that equip Braves with matching hats.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Rattan Homes are fairly basic, and are a reasonable choice if no better option is available. The Rattan Hats passive bonus is somewhat underwhelming, but the Rattan Home's full rain protection can be useful.

— Kainga Encyclopedia
Tiwa Houses are among the few buildings that can be built on top of, provided you have the Technology necessary to access the higher level. This can be useful on space-constrained Biomes such as Towers.

Round houses that allow Braves to excavate Clay from their surroundings.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Embedded Homes are unique in that they can be placed inside the wall of a cliff face. If placed in this way, each time a Brave spawns, they carry Clay to the Hearth. This can be very useful for a Clay-based Technology run, even in Biomes where Clay is in ready supply.

Round Wood houses that benefit from being far from one another.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Isolated Homes are a bit tricky to utilize to their full potential. They spawn Braves significantly faster when they are built some distance apart, indicated by a circle around their blueprint when placing. This can be difficult to pull off effectively in Biomes with tight spaces, such as Towers.

Passive Technologies are ones that can't be built, but can affect gameplay in other ways. They can be found either through Passive Inspiration or by opting-out of any other inspiration type and selecting a Passive instead.

Rattan Hats
Braves get rain hats so they can still work while rained on.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Rattan Hats allow Braves to continue to work, even while being rained on. This can be helpful in Biomes with a lot of rain, or in combination with Thinkers whose Festivals promote rainfall. Rattan Hats is provided for free with the Rattan Home.
- Prerequisites:
- Effects:
Rattan Hats: Braves get rain hats so they can still work while rained on.
Wearing Hats: You may only wear 1 hat type! |
Sharpened Axes
Doubles Braves' damage and chopping speed.
— Kainga Encyclopedia
Sharpened Axes is a very useful passive Technology for warring villages, as well as those with a lot of Log-based Technologies. Braves dealing double damage very nearly makes combat trivial, though they do not have any of the specific advantages other combat-specific units do. Sharpened Axes is provided for free by Garam and Log Tents.
